Interview Summary
The interview was done with the healthcare professionals to collect data on the current issue affecting the quality and safety of patients at the facility. The interview was done in WestMed Medical group in New York. This organization has been doing all it takes to ensure that it meets the desired patient outcome. The facility employs more than 500 healthcare professionals, and in the recent past, the number of patients has increased significantly. These recent issues show that the facility is increasing its performance on healthcare delivery and working towards achieving the Magnus state of the facility.
The interviewee had various roles and duties in the process. First, they were expected to give their honest opinion on the issues affecting the safety of patients at the facility. Secondly, they had to sign a consent form that showed that they willingly participated in the interview. These were the main roles that ensured that important information from the clinic was collected from the sampled respondents.
One of the interviewees said that one of the most significant problems they face is increasing medication errors. While he blamed the leadership for limiting the effective interaction between the healthcare professionals, he also complained that the current systems working at the facility are outdated. This implies that the facility lacks the capability to reduce medication errors and increase patient safety. Another interviewee argued that the leadership style adopted at the facility does not foster unity among healthcare professionals. The leaders in any healthcare facility compete to offer the most effective leadership that focuses on the employees and the organization. However, she commented that leaders at the facility are those type who wait to praise success without taking part in the success process. The ten interviews conducted with the professional at the facility raised the main themes. One of the themes was the increased cases of medication errors that affect patient safety. Secondly, the leadership style employed at the facility does not suffice to aid the company in meeting its desired objective.
It has been observed collaboration among healthcare professionals heightens the collective awareness of each professional in terms of skills and knowledge. It allows a team to be effective towards meeting a better healthcare outcome. Many healthcare problems have been solved by structuring a collaborative motivated towards meeting a common healthcare goal. Communication is one of the main tools that aid in developing a collaborative team. The context of communication defines a personal ability to converse effectively with other healthcare professionals and patients. As such, this presentation will examine the effect of collaboration and leadership in solving healthcare problems at WestMed Medical Group.
The interview process also relayed more information on the culture that is linked to employee collaboration. While the clinic has been working towards developing a culture of unity, there has been an increase in communication disconnect between the departments at the facility. A better communication system is always a factor that always increases collaboration among healthcare professionals. Such systems enable each department to understand the roles that would also affect the patient outcome. However, in WestMed Medical group’s case, the unity and teamwork culture is a problem. These lead to common healthcare problems such as medication errors. The disconnect of the information between the departments, as evidenced by the varying answers given by the interviewees, was also an evident sign that the clinic was facing a serious management problem.
The central theme around the interview process is medication errors which have been on the rise because of the poor communication system at the facility. There have been concerns about various diseases impacting populations negatively and the ever-soaring cost of treatment and care at the facility. This caught stakeholders’ attention on the matter, and they have tried solving the problems using various methods. While various strategies have been applied, such as technological solutions, the issue of medication error still persists, raising concerns.
